In 2006 and 2007, the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency sponsored the Greater Dayton Woodstove Changeout Program. As part of the program RAPCA offered "Clean Air Coupons" to help families replace their old, inefficient stoves with a new gas, pellet, corn, or EPA certified woodburning stove.
RAPCA also worked with U.S. EPA, the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association, Cargill and the Chimney Safety Institute of America to help make the program a success.
Under the first round of the program, which ran in the Summer of 2006, RAPCA provided Clean Air Coupons worth $26,400 and changed out 83 old wood burning stoves. In the second round, which occured in early 2007, RAPCA provided coupons worth $1,800 and changed out six more wood burning stoves. In addtion to the Clean Air Coupon Program, RAPCA selected three low-income families and replaced their old wood burning stoves with new EPA certified woodburning stoves.
